How to Apply for HESLB Loans (2025/2026 Academic Year)

To apply for a loan from the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB), follow these steps carefully:

1. Check Eligibility

Ensure you meet the following requirements:
✅ Tanzanian citizen.
✅ Admitted to an accredited university or college in Tanzania.
✅ Demonstrate financial need.
✅ Meet academic requirements (e.g., minimum entry qualifications).

2. Prepare Required Documents

You will need:

Admission letter from an accredited institution.
Birth certificate, passport, or NIDA ID.
Academic certificates (Form IV, VI, or Diploma).
Bank account details (in your name).
Parents’/guardians’ financial details (if applicable).
Two recent passport-size photos.

3. Register & Apply Online

Visit HESLB’s Online Loan Application System (OLAS):

Register an Account:
- Click “Register” and fill in your details.
- Verify your email/phone number.
Log In & Complete the Application Form:
- Fill in personal, academic, and financial details.
- Upload scanned copies of required documents.
Submit & Print Application Summary:

- Print a copy of the “Application Summary” for reference.

4. Loan Application Fee Payment

Pay a non-refundable application fee (TZS 30,000 for 2025/2026).
Payment methods:
- Mobile money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money, HaloPesa)
- Bank deposit (NMB, CRDB, NBC, etc.)

5. Track Application Status

Log in to OLAS to check if your application is successful.
Successful applicants receive loan allocation details via SMS/email.

6. Loan Disbursement

Once approved, funds are sent directly to your institution (tuition) and bank account (allowances).

Important Notes:

📌 Application Window: Usually opens in June/July (check HESLB website for updates).
📌 Deadline: Submit before the closing date (late applications are not accepted).
📌 Repayment Starts 1 Year After Graduation (15% of salary for employed graduates).
